Kate Hanlon

My name is Kate Hanlon and I have several great passions in life and art is one of them!

Since a small child I have been making things, always busy and productive…… Like many people I love drawing, painting, sculpting, creating…

I trained as a graphic designer at Hornsey College of Art in the 70’s and worked for some very large companies such as Marconi Radar in Chelmsford and British Telecommunications Laboratory in Harlow. I was successful in my career and went on to be an Exhibition Organiser for EEV in Chelmsford.

I also worked for a small company called Imagine Transfers in Braintree who made ‘T’ Shirt transfers and I created some of those very eye catching designs for groups such as Boy George and Wham.

I later did a PGCE teaching qualification at Homerton College in Cambridge and taught art in a Middle School in Newmarket and the at Secondary Schools in Bishops Stortford and then Saffron Walden.

In later years I gave up school teaching to do something which allows me to pursue my art and my passions!

I work in a library part time, produce my own artwork and teach art lessons….

I have been teaching adult art classes for the past nine years and love it! The people I meet are so lovely and so talented; the art world is full of great people and characters! It never ceases to amaze me the wonderful art people produce, so individual and surprising…

In March 2015 a local WI group wrote,

"We sat down with our HB's and colouring pencils for an hour of perfect peace as we followed art instructions from Kate Hanlon, the first ex teacher I have ever met with such a gentle speaking voice. Kate managed to find the Klimt and Matisse in all of us as we produced minor masterpieces. It was the most perfect and enjoyable start to our year."
